Microcredentials are designed to be short, stackable, industry relevant, and digitally credentialed learning experiences, all hosted within our microcredentials platform Open Learning.
Created in conjunction with leading industry partners, our suite of Microcredentials expands across all areas of study including in Business, Medicine, Nursing, Education, Engineering, Environmental Science, IT, Sustainability and more.
With the development of the new Western Sydney International Airport and surrounding Aerotropolis, industries such as advanced manufacturing, defence and aerospace, pharmaceutical manufacturing, freight and logistics, and agribusiness are growing.
The Bradfield Development Authority is a growing centre for innovation where the skills needed to fill new jobs are changing. The Industry Skills Accelerator fills this gap by working in partnership with industry and leading education providers to deliver microcredentials – short, targeted training courses – that allow workers to quickly build the knowledge, skills, and experience that employers need.
BOC and Western Sydney University have teamed up through the Industry Skills Accelerator at Bradfield Development Authority to produce this 35-hour course at BOC's Minto Tech Facility.
The Institute of Applied Technology (IAT-C) offers a variety of stackable microskills and microcredentials designed by industry experts to provide you with practical, hands-on learning experiences and the construction skills employers want.

Microcredentials are industry relevant, university certified courses which enable you to address professional learning needs and advance your skill set without needing to commit to a full multi-year degree.
The National Microcredentials Framework defines microcredentials as a certification of assessed learning or competency, with a minimum volume of learning of one hour and less than an AQF award qualification, that is additional, alternate, complementary to or a component part of an AQF award qualification.
Microcredentials at Western are taught through the online learning platform OpenLearning. Through this platform you are able to learn at your own pace through interactive and engaging modules. Through these courses you are also part of a growing classroom, able to connect with other learners and your teacher. Some specialised courses are also taught through online zoom sessions and face-to-face sessions on campus or other facilities.

Upon successful completion of each microcredential, you will receive a digital credential in the form of a badge and/or certificate. Western uses Accredible, which enables you to securely access and share your achievements at any point in time.
Digital credentials are badges and/or certificates which note the completion of Microcredentials and provide additional evidence of your commitment to increasing your skill set in a particular field.
These credentials can be shared to social media and professional networking sites (e.g. LinkedIn) or embedded in email signatures, websites and more.
